LINGUACULTURAL REPRESENTATION OF THE CATEGORY "OURS – OTHERS" IN ENGLISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE

VLASOVA Lyudmila Ilyinichna, TSARKOVA Olga Alexandrovna

Abstract. This article examines the opposition "we - they" as a universal linguacultural category in political discourse, based on the linguistic subject's affiliation with a particular community, perceived as "we", and their deprivation from another community, perceived as "they." The article analyzes the representation and interpretation of the category " we - they " in English at the lexical and syntactic levels. The study of the "we-they" opposition is universal and can be realized across space, time, and language. The presence of "we" and "they" is present in human communication at the linguistic level. Thus, during linguistic contacts, both positive and negative interactions occur, which can result in conflict. This suggests that the presence of this opposition affects language in two ways: as a means of human communication and as a means of demarcation and "defense." Analysis suggests that the distinctiveness of the "we-they" opposition lies not only in the diversity of its representation but also in its methods of interpretation. This allows us to define it as a linguacultural category and highlight its special value and significance in the political sphere, specifically in the context of information warfare as a cognitive tool and a means of manipulating public opinion and consciousness.

Keywords: linguacultural studies, "friend," "foe", category, method, opposition, discourse, media, semantics, syntagma.
